Maneesh Kalra

Surrounded by melodic kirtans, devotional mantras, and the philolosophy of yoga and the Bhagavad Gita since early childhood, Maneesh’s first formal yogasana (pose) classes took place in 2000.

Under the tutelage of various prominent teachers in Asia including certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher Alex Medin in Hong Kong, Maneesh developed a passion and devotion for Ashtanga and the healing powers of yogasana and pranayama (breathing). This passion grew so intense that by 2006, it compelled him to leave the frenzied rat race of the corporate world behind and instead pursue full-time yoga studies in Mysore, India.

While in India, Maneesh was blessed to study Ashtanga under the auspices of the reverent Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, his steadfast daughter Saraswati, and her inspirational son Sharath Rangaswamy. He also deepened his understanding of yoga therapy and healing by studying a mixture of teachings from the Sivananda and Iyengar schools.

Through these various and variegated yoga adventures, Maneesh has not only gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of yoga, but he has also managed to undo much of the damage wreaked upon his body by decades of sports (and, admittedly, negligence). He hopes to be able to share some of these insights as well as his passion for unlocking the power of the breath and of prana with all who are interested in learning.
