Geneva Hargreaves

Geneva originally began her yogic path focusing on developing a yogic mind. After beginning to study yoga asana in Vancouver, Canada, in 1997, she realized that both mind and body are required to create a balanced yoga practice, and therefore individual. It was her quest to maintain a healthy, balanced, aware, environmentally conscious, and expansive lifestyle that lead her to work for lululemon in Vancouver for almost four years. After over ten years of practicing a variety of different yoga styles in Canada and Japan, she completed a two-hundred-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training course at YogaJaya with Patrick Onacia in Tokyo, Japan. Geneva has been teaching yoga for over one year, and her teaching style incorporates a traditional Hatha approach with Yin asanas in order to create balance within the body.

Concurrently, she completed Yoga Ed. Kids Yoga teacher training (for ages 3–4 to 13–14) with Brynne Caleda, founder of Under the Yoga Tree. Geneva has also been teaching English at numerous kindergartens in Japan for four years. As is obviously understood, kids cannot do yoga asana in the same form as adults. In some yoga asana, children are more flexible than adults, and for others they haven’t developed the motor skills yet to come close to creating a similar pose that an adult is capable of. According to Geneva, Kids Yoga is more about nurturing the natural yogic mind of children by providing them with tools to be self-reflective and explore different ways of connecting and interacting with other people and things, while building a strong foundation of asana understanding that allows them to advance easily later in life.
