What is HelloYoga.com?
Many people in Tokyo are interested in learning yoga in English; whether they be foreign expatriates seeking instruction they can understand, or Japanese who want to practice yoga and English at the same time.
There is a growing number of yoga practitioners who visit Tokyo each year from abroad including tourists, business travelers and yoga teachers. These people would like to research Tokyo’s yoga scene before they arrive, make new friends during their stay, and then keep in touch after they leave.
Each year, many Japanese graduate from yoga teacher training programs. Many of them aspire to go abroad to further their yoga studies. To prepare for their overseas studies, they can brush up their English by taking English yoga instruction in Tokyo before they leave. The friendships they form with foreign expatriate classmates or visiting yoga teachers from abroad may also be very valuable for their travels. Then, whilst they are abroad, they like to stay connected with their yoga friends back home, and, when planning their return to Tokyo, they like to research what’s available.
HelloYoga.com seeks to serve the diverse needs of Tokyo’s English-speaking yoga community through a variety of online media and offline events.
The HelloYoga.com Website
The HelloYoga.com website (http://www.helloyoga.com/) keeps Tokyo’s English-speaking yoga community informed with thoughtful articles and a calendar of upcoming events such as workshops, courses, parties and retreats. Our directories list English-speaking yoga teachers and studios that offer classes or workshops in English in the greater Tokyo area. HelloYoga.com is also integrated with popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Mixi to help keep the community interconnected.
HelloYoga.com’s design and technical productions is carried out by boutique creative agency, Pikkles Co., Ltd.. The site is owned by social marketing firm, Pure Enterprise Co., Ltd., which also manages all content.
HelloYoga.com Events
In addition to our various efforts to help Tokyo’s English-speaking yoga community connected online, we also offer events to give everyone an opportunity to meet face-to-face offline.
The HelloYoga.com Party, held in Omotesando in May 2010 and supported by major companies in the health and wellness industries, attracted over 150 people. We served a macrobiotic vegetarian buffet, hosted yoga demonstrations, displayed an exhibition of yoga photography and showcased several alternative healing modalities.
HelloYoga.com CSR
On Sunday evenings, HelloYoga.com founder Dylan Robertson teaches “Community Yoga Classes”. These are special beginner level classes offered for a low price to make yoga more accessible to the local community. 50% of the proceeds are donated to the Tyler Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping children in Japan with cancer and their families.
HelloYoga.com runs a column of articles, called “Take Action“, that highlights the efforts of Tokyo-based yoga teachers to raise money for charity, encourages readers to support local charities and gives tips on how we can be more eco-friendly.
We will increasingly be involving other yoga teachers these activities so that HelloYoga.com becomes a hub for positive action.
